Me, Myself, and Cookies

While finding myself happy as a clam to have found such an amazing crew to work with post college, I couldn't have been more stoked to hear that one of my first projects to dive into was entitled "cookie practicals"...pretty much meaning cookie shoots involving cookies.

For a girl, like me, who spent a good majority of her time in high school and college photographing and styling plates of desserts and bakery sweets, I could not have been more enthused to not only help out on such sweet shoots, but also to realize that I'm not the only one who can (and likes to) obsess over how chocolate chips are placed in a cookie.

Having a passion for styling foods of all sorts, I was super stoked to hear the Boss Man ask me to make these cookies look perfect for the shoots. Furthermore, I was asked to throw cookie ingredients at models, drop cookies into a bucket while standing on a table, and find a way to pre-break a cookie without looking like its been broken. Indeed, and strangely enough, this kind of activity is no doubt right up my alley. CG

Uncle Eddies Cookies: live action

Imstepf films recently took our cookie projects to the next level when we decided to utilize the face of a model as an additional subject to our shoot.

The models facial expressions were an important part of the broadcast spot we were shooting, in conjunction with her reaction to getting splattered with cookie ingredients from all directions.

The camera used to film the action was also fully prepared for capturing the scene, shooting over a thousand frames per a second.

Although this wasn't a one take shoot, our models were still smiling by the end of the day.. CG

Syrup... takes the IMSTEPF crew

The sweetest, stickiest, syrup job is the song that never ends. It just goes on, and on, and on.

Well the IMSTEPF crew just started singing it.. and shooting it ..yikes, what an endeavor --of such a single, simple liquid sugar.

WE cannot count the ways this caramel looking viscous liquid looks in motion, let alone in still. Instant love affair describes the obsession with liquid shooting. Viscous and thick is lusciousness to the eyes.

The RED proved to be a consistent companion along the yellow brick road of joy and discovery. Herr Imstepf himself, had 7 helpers on set, pouring, cleaning, sticking, sliding, gaffing, grooming, prepping... Amanda, Mai, Lesley, Evan, Nate, Deb, and Shiva too. Loads of fun lots of work.

We discovered in the dailies later that the syrup doubled oil as well. So we pulled out some pretty gears we had in the workshop. We shined em up on put them on set with the syrup. We tried holding it with hands, arms, rolling, dropping.. and just captured image and observed. Then we'd repeat the process.

We felt that shooting syrup pours evolved into a different kind of visual party plan than the initial pancake or waffle of luscious pouring action. So we started playing with the idea of oil as well. We'd figure it out later on this one. Not the usual method and approach. But we wanted to shoot,, and had everything lined up.. so we gave ourselves permission to explore without a decisive plan, except to shoot, explore, look and conclude. Write the story as we experience it.
